I’m A Cream Bronzer Convert Thanks To Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base

May 15, 2013By

I have been a powder bronzer girl forever.   But lately, I have been worried that the powder effect can be leaving  streaks and there is nothing worse than looking like you fell asleep under the tanning lights!

Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base ($48)

S185300_XLARGE

Cream bronzers are actually much easier to use. The best part about cream bronzers is that they don’t contain much shimmer (or any in the case of the Chanel), but because they’re a creamy consistency by nature, they have a bit of sheen, which makes your face look healthy and glowy—not dusty. They’re also sheerer than powders, meaning you still can see the texture of your skin underneath the product, so it doesn’t look like a mask (or worse, like a big streak of dirt across your face). They’re also incredibly easy to blend, with your fingers or a blending brush.

Remember that your skin needs to be well hydrated, or else the product won’t have an even surface to glide over, and you’ll end up with streaks no matter how careful you are. You also can’t wear a cream over powder foundation. Sorry, it’s against the laws of makeup. Plus, you can still use your powder blush. Start with your foundation followed by your cream bronzer, then, before you brush on your blush, apply a thin layer of translucent powder on top of your cheeks. The powder sets the cream bronzer and allows you to put another powder on top of it without smearing the cream.

Makeup Tips (and a little Couche de Couleur) From Le Metier De Beaute’s Director of Makeup-Mikey Castillo

May 9, 2013By
I finally met Mikey Castillo yesterday- Director of Makeup and Education for one of my favorite lines, Le Metier de Beaute. I actually interviewed him about two years ago over the phone. I had to take the call in my car since my cell phone was low on battery (a usual situation) and throughout our 45 minute conversation, I was freaking out because my gas light was on and there were no gasoline stations nearby.  It took all of my energy not to panic that warm July afternoon. Honestly, I don’t know how I kept it together and I probably will never forget that interview and luckily I did manage to get to a station on fumes!
My time with Mikey at Neiman Marcus in King of Prussia was by far a better experience. Not only is he the most delightful man to speak with, his passion for his career and true devotion to making women feel beautiful immediately captivated me. I picked up so many makeup tips yesterday and I couldn’t wait to share them with my Babes:
First off, everyone one of you should own an eyeshadow kaleidodcope ($95)
NMC11A4_mi
It’s basically four eye shadows neatly tucked into the coolest case that is great for travel or grabbing from your makeup drawer. Not only are LMDB eyeshadows the best in the industry (this statement said after I have been through every aisle in Sephora and every counter in Bergdorf/Neiman’s). But there’s something about beginning your experience with the brand with a kaleidoscope- It’s all there arranged for you. When you throw me into the wild with 34 eyeshadows to choose from, I start to panic and let’s face it,  sometimes people just need a little bit of structure and guidance before they know how to experiment.
Anyway, Mikey started  throwing the words Couches de Couleurs around which is Le Metier’s  technique for layering eyeshadows. The LMDB colors are classified in 4 groups that serve 4 different purposes :
  • Brighten: Resembles skin color, but has a little radiance to it
  • Warm up: Resembles your natural blush color. Everyone has a different color, some people have more red, some more pink. To determine what tone you are, you should clench your knuckles and look at the color by the protruding bones.
  • Focus: What the overall look is going to become
  • Give depth: Usually placed at lash line, gives a veil to the entire look.

For such a fancy name, the technique is rather easy plus it was fun listening to Mikey say the word couche each time the brush touched my lid.

If your wondering if you can recreate this technique at home…. you can. Here is how I couched this morning-

Another great tip I learned is when lining your lids, use a felt tip liner in black. Place the tip directly onto the base of your lashes and instead of drawing the line onto your lids, tap the color on. So much easier and less chance of overdoing it!

NMC0EKD_miThis is my all time fave LMDB product:

Peau Vierge Correcteur Concealer ($95)

NMC0N78_mxThe formula is designed to work like skincare—it encourages collagen production, diminishes the appearance of dark circles, softens lines, blurs blemishes and tightens the look of pores within a week of daily use. Light-diffusing coverage creates a smooth, luminous, undetectable finish. Broad-spectrum SPF 16 protects the skin from damaging UVA/UVB rays.

Active Ingredients

  • Retinol: anti-aging powerhouse known for its ability to smooth and plump wrinkles from deep below the skin’s surface, stimulating collagen cell rejuvenation and bringing elasticity back to skin.
  • Paraben, talc, fragrance, and dye-free.

This concealer is so amazing. I actually feel it working as I’m wearing it. LOVE!

Thanks to Neiman Marcus in King of Prussia for having me out.

Our Best and Worst from the 2013 Met Ball

May 7, 2013By

I love me some Met Ball fashion! This is where the stars can really let their fashion sense all hang out and with this year’s punked theme many made their mark and some didn’t.

After years of being snubbed, Kim Kardashian proudly walked the red carpet at the2013 Met Ball last night with Kanye West, who also served as the evening’s entertainment.kim-kardashian-kanye-west-met-ball-2013

I’m thinking that Kim’s dress was once my grandparent’s comforter or at least a few throw pillows!

Although the exhibit was called Punk Chaos to Couture, Don’t you agree that Miss SJB looked  silly in her bird hat or whatever that thing on her head was. With so much going on with her gown and hair, did she really need to add a necklace?

rexusa-1290865dAnn Hathaway got it all right with this stunning vintage Valentino which she  paired with her newly blonde pompadour, smoky eyes, and a healthy dose of side boob, it was one of my fave looks of the evening.

rexusa-1290864hlMiley definitely brought her A game. Her frosted, spiked hair and red lips were all ’70s punk and her long-sleeved fishnet Marc Jacobs column dress was a modern take on punk.

Our fave look of the evening hands down…. Nicole Richie. She nailed the sophisticated punk look with her grey hair and perfectly plum lips. Simply awesome.

Neiman Marcus… Got Scent? Try Marc Jacobs, Beautiful On You & On Your Counter.

April 30, 2013By

Is it me or did spring creep up on us? As a somewhat rational woman, I know that winter won’t last forever (thank goodness), but when the sun starts to warm me up and the buds and blossoms start to peek out of the ground, my mood changes!  Although I haven’t thrown my boots into the back of my closet, I am breaking out the flip-flops and maxi dresses. I’m also in the mood for a new scent to match this beautiful weather. These beautiful bottles by Marc Jacobs not only smell amazing but they will look awesome on your counter!

Marc+Jacobs+Daisy
Marc Jacobs Daisy Sunshine ($65) creates a sun-kissed expression of the iconic daisy. It is vibrant, floral, and fruity. Featuring a mood-brightening infusion of juicy red fruits, vivid spring blossoms, tender lychee, and a velvety base of blushing apricot skin and musky woods, the fragrance is captivating and radiant.

c33dbc2c0529def7_Marc-Jacobs-DotDot ($69-$89) by Marc Jacobs captures a charming, upbeat spirit with timeless sophistication.

Check out what’s coming in August…

Marc+Jacobs+Honey-1

Honey is said to be a vibrant, bold and spontaneous enchanting floral fragrance. It has top notes of pear, fruity punch and juicy mandarin; a heart of orange blossom, peach nectar and honeysuckle, while the base has honey, golden vanilla and smooth woods. LOVE!

Bye Bye Gloss Girl… Hello Lipstick Lady. Buxum Full-Bodied Lipsticks Rock.

April 23, 2013By

Are you a gloss girl or a lipstick lady?

Me- I like both but I tend to wear glosses more than lipstick. I love me some shine. But lately, I have been using a line of lipstick that threatens to turn me into a full-time lipstick lady.

Buxom is a line I don’t mention much but I love it but it quickly became a favorite.

First off… Love the packaging! They are like huge barrels. They are jumbo. The product inside is about what you’d expect to get with any lipstick. In other words- jumbo applicator, normal sized product.

My favorite….. Hooligan.

Buxom-Full-Bodied-Lipstick-Hooligan

This is a perfect holy grail every day shade. I know it’s kind of plain, but I love it! It’s the kind of shade that would be perfect to throw in your purse because it goes with every makeup look out there. I would describe it as a warm rosy neutral, and Buxom describes it as a mauve plum. I love shades that I don’t have to think about that you can swipe on regardless of how the rest of your makeup looks.

These are so ultra hydrating, and even after several hours of wear I have some color left to my lips. There is no tingle, just soft and velvety color on my lips. I love this!

Thar She Blows! Blow Pro Mane Tame- How Did I Live Without You?

April 18, 2013By

How many days can you go without washing your hair?  Do you wash it every day?  Every other day?  Every three days?  Or, are you like my mom’s generation and you go once a week?

By the way…I always thought that was really disgusting. How did those ladies do it?  I know many still do.

Confession… I hate washing my hair!

Don’t get me wrong, I love having long hair BUT I can’t stand styling it. Taking care of my hair  is a full time job that I just don’t want to have. In my hair fantasy world,  I would love to have a professional blow out twice NO three times a week! How awesome would that be? Just roll in somewhere, get a great head wash, maybe through in a head a neck massage for good measure and 30 minutes later- VOILA- I am ready for my close up!

The idea is already being done all over the country and even in Asia and Europe. Wonder when us Main Line girls might being seeing this concept come our way!?!?
